Spam emails are often the bane of an efficient and organized inbox. Manually navigating through a list of unwanted advertisements can ruin your focus, and more importantly, waste your time. As these advertisements rely on reaching as many eyes as possible, sometimes it’s tricky to prevent these unwanted emails from cluttering your inbox. Here are 3 quick tips for stopping these emails from taking control of your inbox.

Gmail’s Automated Unsubscribe Feature
Gmail has a very useful feature that automatically detects some spam/advertisement emails and asks if you would like to unsubscribe from the emails in question. When that happens, all you need to do is click on the unsubscribe button next to the sender’s email at the top of the email:

You will then see a dialog box asking to confirm the un-subscription to the emails. Clicking the “Unsubscribe” button will result in a quick confirmation message.

Manual Unsubscribe
Usually, that option won’t be available, which leaves users with the standard method of finding the unsubscribe link in an email. Usually, the link will be found at the end of the email as seen below:

Clicking the link will usually navigate to a site which asks the user for more information on why they are no longer wishing to receive emails from the sender, which you are under no obligation to fill out accurately.

Block Sender
Sometimes, spam emails don’t have a clear-cut method of unsubscribing. In these situations, one step that can be taken is to block the sender entirely. This can be done on Gmail by clicking the vertical 3 dots at the top right of the email and then navigating to the Block sender option, as seen below:

The same can also be accomplished in Outlook by right-clicking on the spam email and choosing “Block Sender” from the “Junk” menu choice:
